Medical gleet is a form of chronic gonorrhea, which is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is characterized by a thick, mucoid discharge from the urethra, which often has an unpleasant odor. In men, it is usually accompanied by pain or burning when urinating. In women, it may cause no symptoms but can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. It is more common in men than women and is more likely to occur in people with multiple sexual partners or who have recently changed sexual partners. Treatment usually involves antibiotics, although in some cases, surgery may be necessary.
