Furuncle

A furuncle, also known as a boil, is a skin infection caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. It is a deep-seated infection of a hair follicle and surrounding tissue. Symptoms of a furuncle include a red, tender, and swollen bump on the skin that may have a white or yellow center. It may be accompanied by fever, chills, and general malaise. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and drainage of the affected area.
