Epstein-Barr virus EBV

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a type of herpes virus that is very common. It is estimated that more than 90% of adults over the age of 35 have been infected with this virus. EBV is spread through contact with saliva or other body fluids from an infected person. It can also be spread through blood transfusions, organ transplants, and sexual contact. EBV can cause several different types of illnesses, including infectious mononucleosis, Burkitt’s lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and lymphoproliferative disorders. Symptoms of EBV infection can include fever, sore throat, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and jaundice. Treatment for EBV usually involves rest, fluids, and medications to reduce fever and ease symptoms. In some cases, antiviral medications may be prescribed.
