Dystony

Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes sustained, involuntary muscle contractions that lead to repetitive and often abnormal movements or postures. The movements can be slow and writhing, or they can be violent and jerking. Dystonia can affect any muscle group, including facial muscles, and can cause abnormal postures or other unusual movements of the head, neck, trunk, arms, or legs. Dystonia can also affect the vocal cords, leading to changes in the sound of a person’s voice. Dystonia is a progressive disorder, and symptoms can worsen over time. Treatment options include medications, physical and occupational therapy, and even deep brain stimulation.
