Delirium tremens
Delirium tremens (DTs) is a serious and potentially life-threatening medical condition caused by sudden withdrawal from alcohol. It typically occurs in people who have been drinking heavily and abruptly stop drinking, but can also occur in people who have been drinking heavily over a long period of time and then reduce their intake. Symptoms of DTs include confusion, disorientation, tremors, rapid heart rate, sweating, and seizures. Other symptoms may include hallucinations, agitation, and paranoia. Treatment for DTs typically involves intravenous fluids, medications to reduce agitation, and close observation. It is important to seek immediate medical attention for anyone experiencing symptoms of DTs.
