Dehydration

Dehydration is a condition that occurs when the body is losing more fluids than it is taking in. It happens when fluid losses exceed fluid intake, usually due to insufficient fluid intake, excessive sweating, vomiting or diarrhea. Symptoms can include dry mouth, thirst, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, decreased urine output, and dark-colored urine. Dehydration can be dangerous and even life-threatening if not addressed promptly and treated appropriately. In severe cases, dehydration can lead to confusion, seizures, shock and even death. Mild to moderate dehydration can usually be treated with increased fluid intake and rest. Severe dehydration may require intravenous fluids and medical attention.
