Decubitis
Decubitis (also known as pressure ulcers or bedsores) is a medical condition that occurs when a person is confined to a bed or wheelchair for a prolonged period of time. The pressure of the body on a particular area of the skin reduces blood circulation in that area, leading to a lack of oxygen and nutrients and eventually to the death of the skin and tissue. This results in an open sore or wound on the skin that is usually red, painful, and can become infected. Treatment includes cleaning and dressing the wound, providing proper nutrition and hydration, and using a special mattress or cushion to reduce pressure on the area.
