Congestion

Congestion is a condition in which the body experiences an excessive amount of fluid in certain areas. It is most often seen in the lungs, sinuses, and abdomen. In the lungs, congestion can be caused by an infection, allergies, or an underlying medical condition such as asthma or COPD. In the sinuses, congestion is usually caused by a cold or allergies, and in the abdomen it can be caused by a blockage in the intestines or an infection. In the lungs, congestion can cause difficulty breathing, wheezing, and a feeling of tightness in the chest. In the sinuses, congestion can cause pressure, pain, and a stuffy nose. In the abdomen, congestion can cause bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Congestion can be treated with medications such as decongestants, bronchodilators, and antibiotics. Depending on the underlying cause, other treatments such as inhalers, nasal sprays, and antihistamines may also be used. In some cases, surgery may be needed to relieve the congestion.
