Colonic Polyposis
Colonic polyposis is a condition in which multiple polyps form in the large intestine (colon). Polyps are small, mushroom-shaped growths of tissue that can become cancerous. Colon polyposis is a precancerous condition that can lead to colorectal cancer. Symptoms of colon polyposis may include abdominal pain, cramping, changes in bowel habits, and blood in the stool. A doctor may diagnose colon polyposis through a physical exam, blood tests, X-rays, and a colonoscopy. Treatment typically involves the removal of the polyps, either through a colonoscopy or surgery. In some cases, additional treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation may be required.
