Coccyx

The coccyx is a small, triangular-shaped bone located at the base of the spine. It is also known as the tailbone, and it is the remnant of a vestigial tail in humans. The coccyx serves as an attachment point for various muscles, tendons, and ligaments that help to stabilize and support the pelvic organs. It also acts as a shock absorber during activities such as walking and running. Pain in the coccyx may be caused by a variety of conditions, including coccydynia (coccyx pain), fractures, or infections. Treatment for coccyx pain typically includes rest, ice, and medications. In some cases, a physical therapist or surgeon may be consulted to provide further treatment.
