Climacteric
Climacteric (also known as menopause) is a natural process in a woman's life in which her ovaries stop producing eggs, her body's levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone decline, and her menstrual cycles become irregular. This typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, and is marked by physical and emotional changes, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and irregular periods. During the medical climacteric, a woman's risk of developing certain medical conditions, such as heart disease and osteoporosis, increases. Other psychological symptoms, such as depression and anxiety, may also occur. Treatment options for medical climacteric vary, but can include lifestyle changes, hormone replacement therapy, and medications to manage symptoms.
