Cellulitis
Cellulitis is an infection of the skin and underlying tissues caused by bacteria. It appears as an area of redness and swelling, usually on the face, neck, arms, legs, or other parts of the body. The skin may be tender and warm to the touch and may blister or ooze. It is caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, and other bacteria. Treatment usually involves antibiotics such as penicillin, cephalosporins, or clindamycin. In some cases, hospitalization may be needed for intravenous antibiotics. Surgery may be needed to remove infected tissue. Cellulitis can be a serious condition and can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
