Canker

Canker is a term used to describe a wide range of diseases that affect the oral mucosa. It is most commonly caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), which is the virus that typically causes cold sores. Other possible causes of medical canker include bacterial and fungal infections, trauma, and certain medications. Symptoms of medical canker may include red or white patches, ulcers, and burning or tingling sensations in the mouth. Treatment of medical canker may include antiviral medications, antibiotics, topical medications, and home remedies such as topical saline solution or topical honey. In some cases, medical canker may also require surgical removal or excision.
