Bubonic Plague

Bubonic plague is a deadly infectious disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It is one of the most devastating pandemics in human history and is still present in certain parts of the world. It is usually spread through the bite of an infected flea, though it can also be spread through contact with infected animals or people. The classic symptom of bubonic plague is a swollen and tender lymph node called a bubo. Other symptoms include fever, chills, headaches, and fatigue. In many cases, if left untreated, the disease can be fatal. Treatment includes antibiotics and supportive care. Prevention includes avoiding contact with infected animals, fleas, and people, as well as using insect repellant.
