Bronchocoele
Bronchocoele is a rare congenital condition characterized by a cystic dilatation of the bronchi. It is caused by a defect in the bronchial wall, resulting in an abnormal enlargement of the bronchi. The bronchial wall is composed of muscle, cartilage, and connective tissue, and in bronchocoele, these components are weakened, allowing the wall to expand. This results in a cystic dilatation of the bronchi, which is often filled with mucus. The most common symptom of bronchocoele is difficulty breathing. This is due to the obstruction of the airways caused by the enlargement of the bronchi. Other symptoms may include a persistent cough, wheezing, chest pain, and recurrent respiratory infections. Diagnosis is usually made through physical examination and imaging studies. Treatment usually involves controlling the symptoms and managing the underlying cause. This may include medications to reduce inflammation, bronchodilators to open the airways, and antibiotics to treat any infections. In severe cases, surgical removal of the dilated bronchi may be necessary.
