Bilharzia

Bilharzia, also known as schistosomiasis, is a parasitic disease caused by several species of flatworms of the genus Schistosoma. The disease is spread by contact with infected fresh water, such as lakes, ponds, and rivers, and is most common in tropical and subtropical regions. Symptoms of infection can range from mild to severe, and can include fever, malaise, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In more severe cases, the infection can lead to serious organ damage, including cirrhosis of the liver, bladder cancer, and kidney failure. Treatment usually involves the administration of antiparasitic drugs. Prevention is based on avoiding contact with contaminated water sources.
