Beriberi
Beriberi is a condition caused by a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1) in the diet. It is typically characterized by symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle weakness or paralysis, and difficulty breathing. In severe cases, it can lead to heart failure, coma, and even death. Beriberi can be prevented by eating a balanced diet with plenty of foods containing thiamine, such as whole grain cereals, legumes, and meat. Treatment for beriberi includes thiamine supplementation and dietary changes. If left untreated, the condition can be fatal.
