Bedsore

Bedsores, also known as pressure ulcers, are a form of skin and tissue damage caused by constant pressure or friction. They usually occur on bony areas of the body, such as the hips, heels, ankles, and tailbone, where the skin is thin and does not have a good blood supply. Bedsores are most common in people who are bedridden or in a wheelchair for a long period of time, as the bones press against the mattress or chair, cutting off the blood supply to the skin. They can also occur in people who are immobilized due to illness or injury. Bedsores can start out as a red or discolored patch on the skin and can progress to an open wound. They can become infected and lead to more serious health problems if left untreated. Treatment includes cleaning the wound, protecting it from further damage, and using special dressings and creams to keep it moist and promote healing.
