Atony
Atony is a medical condition in which a patient experiences a lack of muscle tone or control. It can be caused by a number of different medical conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury, head trauma, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and certain medications. Atony can occur in the muscles of the limbs, face, neck, or trunk, and can lead to a decrease in muscle strength and control, as well as an inability to initiate movement. In some cases, atony can lead to a complete paralysis of the affected area. Treatment for atony includes physical therapy, medications, and in cases of paralysis, surgery. In some cases, atony can be managed with lifestyle changes, such as changes in diet and exercise.
