Athlete's Foot
Athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a fungal infection of the skin on the feet. It is most commonly caused by a type of fungus called Trichophyton, which lives in warm, moist places like showers, locker rooms, and swimming pools. The infection usually begins between the toes, and can spread to the soles of the feet and the toenails. Symptoms include red, flaky, and itchy skin, blisters, and a strong odor. The infection is highly contagious and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person, or through contact with objects that have been in contact with the fungus, such as shoes and socks. Athlete's foot can be treated with antifungal medications, but the infection can easily recur if the person does not take steps to keep their feet dry and reduce moisture in the area.
