Aposteme

Aposteme is a type of mass or lump that can develop on or beneath the skin. It is typically filled with pus and can be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. They can range in size from a few millimetres to several centimetres. They often have a firm, round shape and can be painful to the touch. Medical apostemes can occur anywhere on the body, but they are most common on the face, neck, arms, and legs. They are most often caused by a bacterial infection, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Other potential causes include fungal infections, skin conditions, or trauma to the affected area. Treatment typically involves antibiotics or antifungal medications, and in some cases, the aposteme may need to be surgically removed.
