Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that helps red blood cells transport oxygen throughout the body. When there is not enough hemoglobin, the body does not receive enough oxygen and symptoms of anemia can occur. Symptoms of anemia can include fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath, and a rapid heart rate. Anemia can be caused by a variety of factors including nutritional deficiencies, chronic illnesses, and inherited conditions. Treatments for anemia vary depending on the underlying cause, but may include supplementing iron, vitamin B12, or folic acid, as well as lifestyle changes such as increasing dietary intake of iron-rich foods.
