Andropause
Andropause is the male equivalent of menopause, and is the term used to describe the gradual decline in testosterone levels that occurs in aging men. It is a natural part of the aging process, and is believed to be caused by a decrease in the production of testosterone, the male sex hormone, in the testes. This decrease in hormone production results in physical, psychological, and sexual changes that can be disruptive to a man’s quality of life. Common symptoms include fatigue, irritability, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, weight gain, and decreased muscle mass. Andropause can also increase a man’s risk of certain health conditions, including heart disease and osteoporosis. In some cases, lifestyle changes and hormone therapy may help to alleviate the symptoms of andropause.
