Amebiasis
Amebiasis is an infection caused by the single-celled parasite Entamoeba histolytica. It is typically contracted by ingesting contaminated food or water. Symptoms can vary from mild to severe and range from diarrhea and abdominal pain to liver abscesses and even death. In some cases, the parasite can spread to other organs in the body and cause serious complications. Treatment typically includes antibiotics, antiparasitic medications, and sometimes surgery. Prevention is key, and this can be done by practicing good hygiene, boiling drinking water, and avoiding contact with contaminated surfaces.
