Acid Indigestion

Acid indigestion (also known as heartburn or acid reflux) is a common digestive disorder caused by a build up of stomach acid in the esophagus. It is characterized by a burning sensation in the chest, caused by stomach acid that has refluxed up into the esophagus. Symptoms may also include a sour taste in the mouth, belching, a sore throat, and difficulty swallowing. Acid indigestion can be caused by certain foods, eating too much, or lying down after a meal. Treatment includes lifestyle changes such as avoiding trigger foods, eating small meals, and avoiding lying down for at least an hour after eating. There are also medications that can help reduce the production of stomach acid.
