Hydroxycarbamide (also known as hydroxyurea) is an oral medication used to treat certain types of cancers as well as certain disorders of the blood. It works by slowing down the production of certain types of cells, including cancer cells and white blood cells. It is used to treat certain types of leukaemia, myeloproliferative disorders and polycythaemia vera. It can also be used to reduce the risk of recurrent episodes of pain associated with sickle-cell anaemia.

- Sickle-cell disease: It increases fetal hemoglobin and decreases the number of painful episodes, also known as sickle cell crisis.
