Desirudin

Desirudin is a prescription anticoagulant (blood thinner) medication used to help prevent blood clots from forming. It works by preventing the formation of clots in the veins and arteries. It is used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and arterial thromboembolism (ATE). It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke and other serious complications in people who have atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat). Desirudin is typically given as an injection once or twice a day.

Desirudin is a medication that acts as an anticoagulant, also known as a blood thinner. It prevents blood clots from forming by directly inhibiting thrombin, an enzyme in the blood that plays a key role in clot formation.

Desirudin was previously used to help prevent blood clots after hip replacement surgery, but it is no longer commercially available in the United States. There are other effective blood thinners available that may be preferred due to cost or other factors.
