Aldesleukin (Interleukin-2) is a prescription medicine used to treat certain types of cancer, such as renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and metastatic melanoma. It is a type of cytokine, a type of protein that helps regulate the body’s immune system. Aldesleukin is used in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or radiation. Aldesleukin works by helping the body's own immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. It is given intravenously (IV) in a healthcare setting. Common side effects of Aldesleukin include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, and difficulty breathing.
