Trabectedin

Trabectedin is an anticancer drug used to treat certain types of soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer that begins in the muscles, fat, blood vessels, or other tissues of the body. It is a chemotherapy drug that works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells. It is usually given intravenously (by injection into a vein) every 3 weeks. Common side effects include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hair loss.

Trabectedin, also sold under the brand name Yondelis, is an antitumor chemotherapy medication. It's used to treat specific types of advanced cancers. Here's a breakdown of key points about Trabectedin:

Conditions Treated:

  • Advanced soft-tissue sarcoma: This refers to cancers that develop in the body's connective tissues like muscles, fat, nerves, or blood vessels. Trabectedin is typically used when other chemotherapy options haven't been successful.
  • Ovarian cancer: Trabectedin is used in combination with another chemotherapy drug called liposomal doxorubicin to treat recurrent ovarian cancer.

How it Works:

  • Trabectedin's mechanism of action is complex, but it primarily works by attaching to and damaging the DNA of cancer cells, thereby interfering with their growth and division.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Trabectedin is typically administered intravenously (injected into a vein) by a healthcare professional on a schedule determined by your doctor, usually once every 3 weeks.
