Teclozan

Teclozan is an antiprotozoal agent. Antiprotozoals are used to treat protozoal infections, which include amebiasis, giardiasis, cryptosporidiosis, microsporidiosis, malaria, babesiosis, trypanosomiasis, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, and toxoplasmosis.

Teclozan is an antiprotozoal medication that was once used to treat intestinal amebiasis, a parasitic infection of the intestine caused by the protozoan Entamoeba histolytica. It works by interfering with the parasite's phospholipid metabolism, preventing the formation of arachidonic acid, which is essential for the parasite's survival.

Teclozan is no longer widely used due to the development of safer and more effective medications for treating amebiasis.
