Tebipenem pivoxil

Tebipenem pivoxil is an antibiotic drug used to treat infections caused by bacteria. It belongs to the class of drugs known as carbapenems, which are a group of antibiotics used to treat serious bacterial infections. Tebipenem pivoxil works by inhibiting the production of certain enzymes in the bacteria, which prevents them from growing and multiplying. It is often used to treat complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. It is usually given intravenously, but can also be taken orally.

Tebipenem pivoxil is an antibiotic medication that is being developed to treat complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) and acute pyelonephritis caused by certain bacteria. It is an orally administered prodrug, meaning it is converted into its active form, tebipenem, after it is taken by mouth. Tebipenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including some that are resistant to other antibiotics.

Clinical trials have shown that tebipenem pivoxil is as effective as intravenous ertapenem, another carbapenem antibiotic, in treating cUTI and acute pyelonephritis. Tebipenem pivoxil was also well-tolerated, with the most common side effects being mild diarrhea and headache.
