Sodium oxybate

Sodium oxybate (brand name Xyrem) is a drug used to treat narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness. It is a form of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a naturally occurring neurotransmitter. Sodium oxybate reduces daytime sleepiness, cataplexy (sudden muscle weakness), and sleep paralysis associated with narcolepsy. It is taken as a liquid at bedtime, and it helps to improve the quality of nighttime sleep. Side effects may include dizziness, headache, nausea, and fatigue.
