Oxadiargyl

Selective, post-emergent herbicide

Broad spectrum herbicide

Oxadiargyl isn't a medication, it's actually a herbicide. Here's what it is used for:

  • Controls weeds: Oxadiargyl is a broad-spectrum herbicide, meaning it can kill a variety of weeds including grasses, sedges, and some broadleaf weeds [1].
  • Used in rice fields: It's specifically used in transplanted rice to control weeds that can compete with the rice crop for water and nutrients [2, 4].

How it works: Oxadiargyl disrupts a specific enzyme in weeds called protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase. This enzyme is important for the weed's production of chlorophyll, which is essential for photosynthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, oxadiargyl essentially starves the weed and leads to its death [2, 4].
