Metaflumizone

Metaflumizone is a broad-spectrum, synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used for the control of a wide range of insect pests in turf, ornamental and interior plantscapes, and structural and agricultural sites. It is used for the control of mosquitoes, flies, ticks, fleas and other flying and crawling pests. Metaflumizone offers long-lasting residual control and has low mammalian toxicity. It is also known as chlorfenapyr, and is available as a wettable powder or suspension concentrate.

Metaflumizone is an insecticide, not a medication for humans. Here's what you should know about it:

  • Function: Kills fleas and ticks in cats. It was previously sold under the brand name ProMeris for cats, but this product is discontinued. There was also a ProMeris Duo for dogs that included metaflumizone and another ingredient, but it's no longer available either.
  • How it Works: Metaflumizone disrupts the nervous system of insects by blocking sodium channels, leading to paralysis and death.

Important to Remember:

  • Not for Humans: Metaflumizone is an insecticide and should not be used on humans. It can be toxic if ingested or absorbed through the skin.
  • Veterinary Use Only: If you have a cat with fleas or ticks, consult a veterinarian about appropriate treatment options. There are many safe and effective flea and tick medications available for pets.

Additional Information:

  • Metaflumizone was considered a novel insecticide with a unique mode of action when it was first introduced.
  • It was designed to be less toxic to beneficial insects compared to some other insecticides.
