Crotamiton

Crotamiton is an anti-itch medication used to treat skin rashes, insect bites, and other skin irritations. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical in the body that causes itching. It is available in both creams and lotions and can be used in children over the age of two. It should be applied to the affected area two to three times a day and should not be used for more than seven days at a time.

Crizotinib is a prescription medication used to treat specific types of cancers:

  • Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): This is a specific type of lung cancer. Crizotinib is only effective for NSCLC that tests positive for a specific gene mutation, called anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) or ROS1 mutation.
  • Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL): This is a type of lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. Crizotinib is used to treat ALCL that is relapsed (returned after treatment) or refractory (does not respond to other treatments) and tests positive for the ALK mutation.
  • Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT): This is a rare type of cancer that can occur in various tissues throughout the body. Crizotinib is used to treat unresectable (cannot be removed with surgery), recurrent (comes back after treatment), or refractory IMT that tests positive for the ALK mutation.

It works by blocking the action of specific proteins (ALK and ROS1) that are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. These proteins are called kinase enzymes. By blocking their activity, crizotinib can help to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Here are some additional details about crizotinib:

  • Brand name: Xalkori (among others)
  • Dosage form: capsules
  • How it is taken: Taken orally, usually twice a day with or without food.
  • Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, vision problems, swelling in the hands and feet, and liver problems.

It is important to note that crizotinib can have serious side effects, and it is not appropriate for everyone. It is crucial to talk to your doctor about the potential benefits and risks of taking crizotinib before starting treatment. They will also monitor you for side effects and adjust your dosage as needed.
